Evans & Co Attorneys

Evans & Co. has its origin in the firm of Thomas A. E. Evans & Co., which was founded in 1987 by Mr. Thomas A. E. Evans. In 1988 the firm took on the name Evans, Longley & Co. with the admission of Mr. Hartman G. Longley (formerly Justice of Appeal and now Mr. Senior Justice Longley) as a partner. When in 1992 Mr. Justice Longley moved into the Judiciary the firm adopted the name of Evans & Co. The firm has earned a reputation throughout The Bahamas as litigation specialists.

In particular, Thomas A. E. Evans, a former Acting Justice of the Supreme Court, who was appointed a Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 1996, has a reputation that is unrivalled in the Islands as an advocate. His most outstanding early achievements were in the Criminal Courts and Industrial matters, but in the last twenty years he has become a leading advocate in the commercial courts and in particular commercial matters with a private international law content.

The firms mission is to offer the best possible service to the public in a variety of legal areas. The firm also hosts a weekly radio programme called Evans & Co. Legal Notes which is aired on Fridays at 7:30 a.m. on STAR 106.5. These programme is geared towards educating the listening public about their legal rights and affording them advice on various legal issues.
Evans & Co. has the distinction of having two former partners elevated to the bench, namely Hartman Longely J mentioned above and Milton Evans J, and one former partner appointed as Minister in the Government namely Mr. Desmond Bannister.

Evans & Co. is also known as a firm that is extremely competent in corporate and non-litigious commercial matters and over the past 10-12 years has been very active in the offshore business.
